A decade of recognition, and the culture behind it.
For the tenth year in a row, The Exterior Company (TEC) has been named one of the 2026 Best Places to Work in PA. Ten years might sound like a streak, but around here, it feels more like a promise kept. Every year, the same question gets asked and answered: does this still feel like a great place to build a career? For a decade straight, our team has said yes.
The award, presented by Central Penn Business Journal and Lehigh Valley Business in partnership with Best Companies Group, is based on employee feedback, not marketing copy. That’s what makes it mean something: it’s TEC’s own people. We have to thank our Project Managers, coordinators, support staff and everyone in between who show up every day across Central Pennsylvania — who put us on this list, for the tenth time.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating
“Ten years of this recognition is a testament to something bigger than any single award,” said Joe Hydrick, President of The Exterior Company. “It means our team has built and protected a culture that people genuinely want to be part of, year after year. This one belongs to every person who has come to work here and made TEC feel like home.”
That sentiment, a workplace people choose to stay in, and choose to build a life around, shows up in how TEC operates day to day, not just in an annual survey.
What Actually Makes It Work
“What stands out to me is how our people show up for each other,” said James Diffenderfer, General Manager. “Whether it’s flexibility during an emergency or just genuine support on a tough day, that care is built into how we operate and it shows in the way our team shows up for our customers, too.”
Ask TEC employees what keeps them here, and a few things come up again and again: flexibility that actually flexes, compensation that reflects the work, and a team that treats people like people first.
“We’ve worked hard to build a benefits and compensation package that reflects how much we value our people, and flexibility has always been a cornerstone of that,” said Abby John, Senior HR Manager. “Being named a Best Place to Work for the tenth time isn’t just an honor, it’s a signal to anyone considering a career at TEC that this is a company that will invest in you.”
Why It Matters If You’re Thinking About Joining Us
Ten consecutive years on this list isn’t a coincidence, and it isn’t just a plaque on the wall. It’s a track record. If you’re weighing where to build your next career move in Central Pennsylvania, it’s fair to ask what a company’s own employees have to say about working there. For ten years running, ours have said the same thing: TEC is a place worth staying.
